Background	Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a member of the calcitonin family of peptides, which in human exists in two forms: α-CGRP and β-CGRP. α-CGRP, also known as CGRP I, is a 37-amino acid regulatory neuropeptide formed from the alternative splicing of the calcitonin/CGRP gene located on chromosome 11. While, β-CGRP differs from α-CGRP by three amino acids and is encoded in a separate gene within the same vicinity. α-CGRP is widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous system and it is known to be the most potent vasodilator with inotropic and chronotropic effects. This antibody was generated by immunization of rabbits with Calcitonin coupled to a carrier protein.
