Gene Name charged multivesicular body protein 5
Background CHMP5 belongs to the chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body protein (CHMP) family. These proteins are components of ESCRT-III (endosomal sorting complex required for transport III), a complex involved in degradation of surface receptor proteins and formation of endocytic multivesicular bodies (MVBs). Some CHMPs have both nuclear and cytoplasmic/vesicular distributions, and one such CHMP, CHMP1A (MIM 164010), is required for both MVB formation and regulation of cell cycle progression (Tsang et al., 2006 [PubMed 16730941]). [supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]. Transcript Variant: This variant (2) lacks an alternate in-frame exon in the 3' coding region compared to variant 1. The resulting protein (isoform 2) is shorter compared to isoform 1. Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on transcript alignments. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications. ##Evidence-Data-START## Transcript exon combination :: AK295744.1, DC334402.1 [ECO:0000332] RNAseq introns :: single sample supports all introns ERS025083, ERS025085 [ECO:0000348] ##Evidence-Data-END##
