Immunohistochemistry on cultured cells.
Immunochemistry on Frozen Ethanol Fixed Sections.
Immunochemistry on Paraffin Sections: a protease pretreatment is recommended.
This antibody clone 1-13M1 cross reacts with Mucin of different animal species after periodate pretreatment.
Immunoblotting: Strongly positive without mercaptoethanol pretreatment of mucin solution.
This antibody clone 1-13M1 recognizes Mucin 5AC under non-reducing conditions.
ELISA or IRMA in combination with the Clone 9-13M1 or the mixture of anti-M1 monoclonal antibodies.

Reactivity Human
Host Mouse
Clonality Monoclonal
Immunogen A BALB/c mouse was immunized with Mucin isolated from an ovarian cyst fluid (pure endocervical type according to the Fenoglio's classisfication).
Splenocytes were fused with mouse myeloma SP2/0 cells.
Specificity This antibody clone 1-13M1 is specific for the peptide core of Gastric Mucin (MUC5AC), and more specifically with the 'a' epitope, which is the most abundant amongst the a,b,c,d,e,f, and h protein core epitopes defined by Bara for M1.
This antibody has not been cross-adsorbed and may react with related peptides from cat, cow, chicken, monkey, mouse, rat and rabbit.
The antibody is negative with hedgehog and pig.

Gene Name mucin 5AC, oligomeric mucus/gel-forming
Background Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins that are found especially in the secretions of mucus membranes. Gastric Mucin 5AC antigen is found in columnar mucus cells of surface gastric epithelium and in goblet cells of the fetal and precancerous colon but not in normal colon. Resurgence of gastric mucin during colonic carcinogenesis is suggestive of either re-expression of the peptide core of gastric mucin in the adult colon or due to changes in the glycosylation pattern of mucin, which expose the hidden Mucin 5AC antigen.
Synonyms MUC5AC, MUC5, TBM, LeB
