Immunogen	Synthetic peptide (C-SAGPGLLKAYSIRT) of human keratin K7 (formerly also designated cytokeratin 7), coupled to KLH.
Specificity	Reacts with basic keratin K7 (Mr 54 000). Excellent marker for the discrimination of specific subtypes of adenocarcinoma: e.g. adenocarcinoma of pancreas, bile duct carcinoma and transitional carcinoma of bladder are stained, whereas hepatocellular and prostate carcinomas are negative. Detects specific subtypes of adenocarcinomas: Adenocarcinoma of pancreas, gallbladder, lung, cervix; cholangio carcinoma of liver; ductal and lobular carcinoma of breast; carcinomas of ovary; transitional cell carcinoma of bladder; mesothelioma; negative with most cases of hepatocellular carcinoma. In colorectal carcinoma early stages are reported to be negative but advanced stages of tumor development are positive for keratin K7 expression.

Background	Cytokeratin 7 is a 54kD intermediate filament protein found in a variety of glandularepithelia. Cytokeratin 7 has been found in columnar and glandular epithelium of the lung, cervix, breast, bile ducts and larger collecting ducts of the kidney. It is present in the transitional epithelium of bladder as well as ovarian and lungepithelia, and occasionally staining of blood vessel cell walls, particularly endothelial cells, may be observed. However, Cytokeratin 7 is not expressed by epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract, colon or prostate. Keratin 7 is often co expressed with keratin 19.
