Background	Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP), as well as the three classes of G-protein-coupled receptors mediating their effects, are widely distributed in the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral tissues. These peptides are reported to have many physiological or pharmacological effects in different tissues. Particularly important are their roles in glucose metabolism and on islets; their anti- inflammatory, cytoprotective effects, their CNS neuroprotective effects, and their possible roles in diseases such as schizophrenia and chronic depression. PACAP-38 is a neuropeptide that serves as a neuronal survival factor and it has a greater potency for stimulation of adenylyl cyclase. This antibody was generated by immunization of guinea pigs with PACAP-38 coupled to a carrier protein.
