| Gene Summary | This gene encodes the evolutionarily ancient and most conserved member of the cysteine proteases that plays important role in stress-induced apoptosis, DNA repair and tumor suppression. Mice lacking the encoded protein develop normally but display cell type-specific apoptotic defects.
