Protein Description | This product has been prepared from Human placenta and is free from other Collagens, Human serum proteins and non-collagen extracellular matrix proteins. It reacts with anti-Collagen Type I. Reaction of Human Collagen type I with anti-Collagen II, III, IV, V or VI is negligible (typically less than 1% cross reactivity was detected by ELISA). |
Note | Caution: No test method can provide total assurance that the hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus, or any other infectious agents are absent. Thus, all blood products, including purified proteins derived from human blood sources, should be handled at Biosafety Level 2 as recommended by the CDCNIH manual entitled Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories for potentially infectious human serum, blood specimens or proteins derived from same. Source material for the human blood product supplied has been tested for the detection of HIV antibody, Hepatitis B surface antigen, antibody to Hepatitis C, HIV 1 antigen(s), antibody to HTLV - I/II, and syphilis by FDA guidelines. All units were found to be non-reactive/negative for these tests. All human blood source material is collected in FDA licensed centers and is tested with FDA approved test kits. |
Storage | Store the antigen undiluted at 2-8°C. Dilute only prior to immediate use. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. |
Stability | Shelf life: 6 months from despatch. |

Summary | This gene encodes the pro-alpha1 chains of type I collagen whose triple helix comprises two alpha1 chains and one alpha2 chain. Type I is a fibril-forming collagen found in most connective tissues and is abundant in bone, cornea, dermis and tendon. Mutations in this gene are associated with osteogenesis imperfecta types I-IV, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type VIIA, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome Classical type, Caffey Disease and idiopathic osteoporosis. Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 17 and 22, where this gene and the gene for platelet-derived growth factor beta are located, are associated with a particular type of skin tumor called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, resulting from unregulated expression of the growth factor. Two transcripts, resulting from the use of alternate polyadenylation signals, have been identified for this gene. [provided by R. Dalgleish, Feb 2008] |
